Projects
The project is the unit.
Add a repo folder. Plug inspects it and gives it a home with tabs for everything you would otherwise open elsewhere.
- Register a folder, get a workspace
- Plug detects the language, package manager, scripts, Docker setup and AI config files, and gives the project its own tabs, theme and terminal sessions.
- Commands and dependencies
- Every script from the manifest, runnable in a terminal. Dependencies with the latest npm versions, and a prefilled GitHub issue for the outdated ones.
- The stack, not just the code
- Linked database connections, detected OpenAPI specs, Compose services with live logs, listening ports and git, all scoped to the project you are in.
- Two doors to the same data
- Notes, bookmarks, files and skills belong to a project. Open the project to see its own, or open the global module and filter by project.
AI setup
Every project's AI setup, in the project.
Skills are folders with a SKILL.md. Keep them wherever you like, Loadout included; Plug handles what each project uses.

- Pick skills from a folder on disk, Loadout's library or the folders your agents already read, and write them into the project's tool folders.
- Linked or copied, never clobbered
- Symlink so edits land everywhere, or copy a snapshot. You see the exact files that would be replaced first, and writes are atomic.
- Deployment status
- For any skill, Plug reports which projects and tools have it and whether each copy is a link or a copy.
AI
AI where the work is.
Bring your own OpenRouter key. Plug never proxies your traffic or stores your key in plain text.
- Chat with any model
- Paste an OpenRouter key and pick from its whole catalog. Streaming replies with separate reasoning, image, PDF and text attachments, folders, and a stop button.
- Prompts with typed variables
- Prompt templates use {{variables}} typed in YAML frontmatter: string, number, boolean, select, multiline. A live preview renders the finished prompt to copy.
- AI in the terminal
- Describe a command in words, get the shell command, then insert or run it. The same key drafts prompts and GitHub issues.
- Usage you can see
- Prompt, completion and total tokens are counted per day and shown in the title bar. The key is encrypted with the operating-system keychain.

Local first
Yours, on your machine.
Buy the desktop once, or subscribe to Plug Cloud to carry your projects between machines. Either way the data is yours.
- A folder you own
- Everything lives in ~/.plug as one SQLite database per user. Back it up, reveal it, or move it from Settings.
- Secrets in the keychain
- API keys, database passwords and the licence proof are encrypted with the operating-system secure storage, never written to the app config.
- Works offline
- The licence proof refreshes daily and stays valid through a three-day grace period, so a flight or a cabin does not lock you out.
- Cloud is optional
- A Plug account is only needed for Cloud sync. There is no analytics or crash-reporting library in the app.
